If previews are not working after installing Unfold, go into the macOS settings -> General -> Login Items & Extensions and ensure that the Unfold extension is enabled. Additionally, make sure that there are no conflicting extensions that may be causing conflicts.
macOS protects certain locations, including Downloads, Pictures, Music, Movies, and some external drives. When Quick Look previews a folder in one of these locations, the system may ask for permission more often. To help prevent persistent permission dialogs, allow Unfold full access in Full Disk Access settings.

Unfold supports macOS 14 and newer.
Unfold cannot preview certain file types because macOS already provides built-in Quick Look support for them. This includes formats such as plain text (.txt, .text), rich text (.rtf, .rtfd), HTML/web archives (.html, .webarchive), TypeScript (.ts), Adobe files (.pdf, .eps), Microsoft Office documents (.csv, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx), OpenDocument files (.odt, .ods, .odp), and Apple iWork documents (.pages, .numbers, .key). Unfold focuses on adding previews for formats that macOS does not natively support.
Yes, the app works completely offline. Note that the app may require you to connect online if you are using the free trial.
Each direct-download license covers up to 3 devices.
No. The Mac App Store version is licensed and managed through Apple, so it does not use our 3-device seat-based licensing model.
The Mac App Store version costs more because Apple handles billing, licensing, updates, and distribution, and takes a significant share of each sale. Releasing through Apple also takes more time and effort on our side. The higher price helps cover those platform and release costs while keeping the direct-download version priced lower.

When you first run the app, we create a hash unique to your device, and send it to our server. This hash is saved so that our licensing can work. When you purchase the product, the data you enter is subject to Polar Software, Inc.'s privacy policy.
