Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Splice is a macOS app that helps you find and insert emojis and GIFs using inline triggers, search, and a full emoji picker.

Splice is operated by flew LLC.

Splice is designed to collect as little information as possible. Most processing happens locally on your Mac. We do not track what you type, monitor your messages, sell personal data, or use your data for advertising.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Splice processes, what we collect, what we do not collect, and how we handle information you choose to share with us.

2. Information we process or collect

A. Inline emoji trigger processing

To detect emoji triggers such as :sparkles:, Splice may temporarily process a small amount of text near your cursor.

This processing is used only to detect emoji triggers and show matching emoji suggestions.

This text:

  • Processed locally on your device
  • Not sent to our servers
  • Not stored by us
  • Not used for analytics
  • Not used for advertising

Splice does not monitor or record the messages, documents, or text you write.

B. GIF search

Splice uses the Klipy API to provide GIF search results.

When you actively search for a GIF, Splice sends your GIF search query to Klipy so Klipy can return matching GIF results. GIF search queries may be processed by Klipy according to Klipy's own privacy practices.

Splice does not send your messages, documents, passwords, browsing history, page content, or unrelated text to Klipy.

After Klipy returns GIF results, Splice handles GIF ranking locally on your device. GIF ranking data is not sent to our servers.

C. Ignored Sites

If you use Ignored Sites, Splice may store the websites you choose to disable Splice on.

Ignored Sites are stored locally on your device and are used only to prevent Splice from activating on those websites.

We do not collect, upload, or access your Ignored Sites. We do not use Ignored Sites for analytics, advertising, profiling, or tracking.

D. Emoji and GIF ranking

Splice may store local emoji and GIF ranking data on your device to make frequently used reactions easier to access.

Emoji ranking data stays on your device. GIF ranking is also handled locally after GIF search results are returned by Klipy.

We do not upload your emoji usage, emoji search history, GIF ranking data, or reaction ranking data to our servers.

E. Custom keywords and keyword packs

If you create custom emoji keywords or keyword packs, they are stored locally on your device.

If you choose to export or share a keyword pack, the exported file may contain the custom keywords you added.

We do not collect, upload, or access your custom keyword data.

F. App updates

Splice may connect to the internet to check for and receive app updates.

Update checks are used only to keep Splice up to date. They are not used to collect what you type, track emoji or GIF usage, monitor your apps, or monitor the websites where you use Splice.

G. Support and feedback

If you contact us through Discord, email, or another support channel, we receive the information you choose to share.

This may include your name, username, email address, messages, screenshots, logs, crash details, or other information included in your report.

We use this information only to respond to you, provide support, fix bugs, improve stability, and improve Splice.

3. Information we do not collect

We do not collect:

  • Messages, documents, or text you write
  • Passwords or authentication details
  • Browsing history
  • Page content from websites
  • Emoji search history
  • GIF ranking data
  • Custom emoji keywords or keyword packs
  • Ignored Sites
  • The apps or websites where you use specific emojis or GIFs
  • Usage analytics
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Cross-app tracking data
  • Personal data for advertising or profiling

Splice does not monitor what you type outside the temporary local processing needed to detect emoji triggers.

4. How we use information

We use information only to:

  • Show emoji suggestions
  • Search for GIFs through the Klipy API
  • Insert emojis and GIFs
  • Support browser compatibility
  • Respect Ignored Sites
  • Improve app stability
  • Respond to support requests
  • Fix bugs and crashes
  • Understand feedback you choose to send us
  • Provide app updates

We do not sell personal information.
We do not use your data for advertising.

5. Third-party services

Splice may use limited third-party services where needed to provide specific functionality.

Klipy

Splice uses the Klipy API to return GIF search results. When you actively search for a GIF, your GIF search query is sent to Klipy so Klipy can return matching GIF results.

Splice does not send your messages, documents, passwords, browsing history, page content, or unrelated text to Klipy.

Klipy may process GIF search queries according to its own privacy practices.

Support channels

If you contact us through Discord, email, or another support channel, the information you send may be processed by those services according to their own privacy practices.

6. Data sharing

We do not share personal data with advertisers, data brokers, or tracking companies.

We may share limited information only when necessary to:

  • Provide GIF search results through the Klipy API
  • Respond to support or feedback through services such as Discord or email
  • Provide app updates or technical support
  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Protect the rights, safety, or security of Splice, flew LLC, or our users

7. Data retention

Local app data, such as custom keywords, keyword packs, emoji ranking data, GIF ranking data, and Ignored Sites, remains on your device unless you delete it, reset the app, or export it yourself.

Support messages, feedback, crash reports, and related communications are kept only as long as reasonably necessary for support, product improvement, business, or legal purposes.

We do not store your emoji search history, GIF ranking data, messages, documents, passwords, browsing history, custom keywords, keyword packs, or Ignored Sites on our servers.

8. Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information you have provided to us by contacting [email protected].

We may need to verify your request before taking action.

Because most Splice data is stored locally on your device and is not collected by us, some data can only be deleted directly from your device.

9. Children's privacy

Splice is not intended to collect personal information from children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected] and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy if Splice changes, if our data practices change, or if legal requirements require an update.

When we make changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page.
