Cut and paste, finally.

Requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later.

Shear brings real cut and paste to Finder. Mark files with Command-X, then press Command-V in a new location to move them, just like you would expect.

Supported modifier keys

  • Ctrl uses Control as the cut modifier.
  • Cmd keeps the shortcut aligned with standard macOS conventions.
  • Fn / Globe gives you a separate modifier that stays out of the way of common app shortcuts.
